Today we celebrate the life of an amazing man, my Uncle Joe. A man that dedicated his life to the service of others, not only in his Police job, but with his family and friends. He had so many great stories to share that usually ended up with the room laughing. He built his family home with his hands, his mother’s home, his lake house, and many more. He did so many fantastic jobs, and I was always in awe when he was done. He’d act like he didn’t like pets, but there always seemed to be a stray cat hanging around for him to take care of, and he had the best tales about the stray’s adventures. He taught me what it meant to be a parent, not because of blood, but because of love. The love he had for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was like no other. It was pure, and good, and above all - honest. My Uncle Joe was the most honest and straight forward man I have ever met. You knew he loved you, but you’d know if you did something stupid too.
He took such good care of his Mom, my Mamaw, he was always there for her, through thick and thin. The way he loved his wife, my Aunt Jeannie was evident to all. He was a tough guy, but he would do anything for her. The way he loved his sister, My Mom, was in an ornery and light hearted way. But, it was much deeper than that. He’d pick on her for being a pain in the butt and an old person, sending her over the hill gag gifts, driving up to our house and shining his cruiser lights in telling her to come out with her hands up, which always made my brother and I laugh. But, then Uncle Joe always made sure to tell me how much he loved his sister. He’d always text her to make sure she got home safe from her long drives back and forth from West Virginia and North Carolina. A few years back he made me promise that I would always take care of his big Sister. And I promised him I would. He had set a beautiful example of how to care for others, and I just need to follow his blueprint. He was a true, honest, loving man. The world is a darker place without him, and he will be truly, deeply missed. I love you, Uncle Joe.

My Papster is the number 1 man in my life. We had such an incredibly strong bond my whole life. He always told me, " I have loved you since before you were born, when I would talk to you through a glass on your mother's stomach" there are too many good memories to even pick one to share. But my Papster is a legacy. He was wise, selfless, loving, generous, honest and he was my heart. He took a piece a huge piece of my heart Thursday night with him. I'm thankful I got to spend the day with him though. It was his time. He had a strong fight for 2.5 years but then the battle became too much but he left this world in peace and dignity. The way he lived his life. There would, never be enough time that he could spend with me that would be enough. I was always very selfish with him and I would have given my own life in trade for him to still be here. I miss you much Papster! I'm just happy you are no longer suffering. Its,not goodbye, it's see,you later. Until we meet again

I met Joseph through my brother Robert. My older sister Cynthia and older brother Robert had grown up with him. He used to work security for my father at King Bottling on the weekends and he would talk with me when I was at the facility. He was dedicated to protecting and serving our community and his efforts made our town a safer place in which to live. All the residents of Clarksburg owe him a debt of gratitude.
