Gary Burton Tucker, 71, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg. He was born at Smithfield, WV on July 30, 1948, a son of the late Robert and Violet (Bonnell) Tucker. Mr. Tucker is survived by his wife, Ladonna Marie (Metzner) Tucker.

In addition to his wife Gary is survived by five children: Rick Tucker of Clarksburg, Gary Bryan Tucker of Clarksburg, Yancey Weaver (Kim) of Lost Creek, Jeremy Weaver (Carrie) of Lumberport, and Jamie Weaver (companion Tracy) of Clarksburg; brother, Jimmy Tucker (Karen) of Wallace; nine grandchildren: Hannah, Dylan, Brandie, Zach, Cori, Austin, Brandon, Alyssa, and Brock; numerous great-grandchildren; his father-in-law, Lawrence Metzner; and a brother-in-law, Larry Metzner (Eleanor) of DE.
In addition to his parents Gary was preceded in death by one sister, Debbie Higginbotham.
Mr. Tucker graduated from Valley High School Class of 1966 and enlisted in the Army shortly after. Gary was a highly decorated Veteran of the United States Army, serving during Vietnam in the Big Red One infantry, and was also a recipient of two Purple Heart medals. He later went on to further his education at Salem College where he received his Masters Degree in Teaching and Business. For 12 years he was the head mechanic at Ingersoll-Rand and upon its closing he went into Life Insurance Sales with Equitable Life and then its predecessor American General Life, where he retired in 1996.
Mr. Tucker was a member of the Stealey United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees over the years, was a life member of VFW Post 573 Clarksburg, a member of Sunny Croft Country Club and loved golfing and socializing with his buddies there. He was proud of his military service and was thankful for the Veteran Center in Morgantown and his group of close Vietnam Veteran buddies there. Gary loved traveling and also his “best bud, his cat Chicago.” Over the years Gary was also served as a Little League Coach and Umpire in Harrison County and enjoyed working with the children.
Gary was very involved with Freemasonry and was a member of multiple organizations including: Clarksburg Hermon Lodge #6 PM and serving in that capacity 12 times, Coached many Masons over the last 19 years, Trustee of Hermon Lodge #6, Past President of the Masonic Building Company in Clarksburg, Past District Deputy Grand Master of the 2nd Masonic District of the Grand Lodge of West Virginia, Adoniram Chapter No. 11 Royal Arch Masons (PHP), Most Excellent Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of West Virginia, Clarksburg Commandery No. 13 Knights Templar (Past Commander, KYCH, KTCH, serving as Generalissmo, and as Grand Sword Bearer of Grand Commandery of WV), Knights Templar Honor Guard, The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Clarksburg as a 33rd Degree Mason and a Past Venerable Master, Scottish Rite 18th Degree Ritual Cast, Red Cross Constantine, Grand Council Allied Masonic Degrees St. Lawrence Martyr #21, and Holy Royal Arch Knights Templar Priests Mt. Calvary #19.
Family and friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home 329 E. Main Street Clarksburg, WV, on Sunday, September 8, 2019 from 3 until 8pm. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, September 9, 2019 at 11am with Rev. Michael Burge presiding. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens where Masonic Graveside Rites and Full Military Honors will be accorded.
