Denzil L. Sexton, 79, of Clarksburg, WV, climbed the stairway to heaven on Saturday, July 27,2019, at the United Hospital Center with his loving family by his side as he lost his battle of liver and kidney disease. Denzil was born on March 24, 1940, in Webster Springs, WV. He was the son of the late Frank Sexton and Pearl Whelchel. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sharon Kay Sexton, whom he married on June 23, 1962.

He is also survived by one son, Denzil Kevin Sexton, of Clarksburg and one daughter, Darla Kay Sanders and husband Eddie of Grafton and two beloved grandsons: Stetson Sanders and Colton Sanders, both of Grafton; one brother, Tommy Thomasson of Nevada; four sisters: Betty Nichols and husband Bill of Michigan, Lorraine Cockrum and husband Jim of Tennessee, Pauline Farley and husband Steve of Florida, Jinny Robertson and Companion Don of North Carolina; lots of nieces and nephews; two special sister-in-law’s: Sylvia Haynes and Ann Mason, both of Ohio.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters: Agnes Mathis and Mickey Lilly.
Denzil graduated from Lost Creek High School Class of 1960. He retired from the Clarksburg Exponent-Telegram Newspaper after nearly 60 years. He worked 49 years full-time, retired for 6 months, then went back to work part-time for 10 years. This was the only job he ever held.
He loved eating popsicles and sharing them with his grandsons. He also loved his two beloved dogs: Kaylee Dawn and Macie May, who will miss sitting on his lap dearly. Denzil enjoyed going to Rolling Acres Hunt Camp in Goshen, WV to deer hunt, going camping, fishing, and riding his 4-wheeler. In his spare time, he would sit for hours doing word search puzzles.
Denzil was wonderful man who was extremely loving, kind, and caring. He touched so many lives and hearts in a sweet, soft, and gentle way. He will always be remembered and sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
Family and friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home 329 E. Main Street Clarksburg, WV, on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 from 4 until 8pm. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at 11am with Rev. Alan Hulley presiding. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
