Obituary

Eleanor Locke Ward, 96, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Clarksburg Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born in Weston on August 4, 1922, a daughter of the late John William and Mary (Rafferty) Locke. She was married for 35 years to the late J. Connell Ward, whom preceded her in death on February 8, 1992.

In addition to her parents and husband Eleanor was preceded in death by her sister Mary Louise Grasberger and brother-in-law Frank Michael Grasberger.

Eleanor is survived by two special nieces whom were like daughters to her: Rosemary Fann and husband Sonny of Tall Timbers, MD and Anne Cassedy and husband James of Reston, VA; and their children: Kyle Andrew Fann and fiancé Samantha of Drayden, MD, William Cassedy, Caroline Cassedy, and Mary Louise Cassedy all of Reston, VA. Also surviving is a very close family friend Robert “Bob” Israel of Clarksburg as well as numerous cousins.

Eleanor graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital School of nursing and attended Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. where she was employed at Georgetown University Hospital and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Later she attended Salem College and was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital and then United Hospital Center. She was a member of St. Mary’s Hospital Alumni Association, the Sierra Club of Clarksburg, YWCA, and also held life memberships in the Harrison County Historical Society as well as the Auxiliary to the United Hospital Center.

She was a woman of devout faith and loved her time with family and friends. Her nursing career was also very important to her and a big part of her life. She always had a gentle soul and caring spirit when it came to caring for others; even when her own health was declining she never went without thanking and appreciating those who cared for her. Eleanor was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarksburg.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 10am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. Father Casey Mahone as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Online condolences, www.davisweaverfuneralhome.com The Davis-Weaver Funeral Home is honored to serve the Ward Family during this time.

Eleanor was the sweetest and kindest person I have ever met, she cared more about others needs than her own. She was an angel in life and now an angel in heaven, God's special gift to all. Jimmy
