Russell Lee Riffle, 92, of Clarksburg, WV (Laurel Park Community), passed away on his birthday, Thursday, June 20, 2019. He was born on June 20, 1927 at Millertown, WV in Upshur County, a son of the late Roscoe Clay and Opal Icy (Roby) Riffle. Mr. Riffle is survived by his loving wife of nearly 69 years, Dorothy L. “Dottie” (Johnson) Riffle, whom he married on August 5, 1950.

In addition to his wife Russell is survived by one daughter, Kathy Hamrick and husband Steven of Laurel Park; one sister, Helen Beto of Morgantown; two granddaughters: Casey Miller and husband Andy, and Katie Swanson and husband Nathan all of Ankeny, Iowa; six great-grandchildren: Gideon, Sawyer, and Sadie Miller, and Zadok, Xander, and Reddek Swanson.
Russell was also preceded in death by one brother and three sisters: Clifford Riffle, Margurite Radcliff, Juanita Ozborn, and Mildred Ward.
Russell lost his parents at an early age so he attended several schools growing up including Brooks Hill, Laurel, and Buckhannon High School in Upshur County and then on to Unidis High School in West Milford. He then joined the United States Navy and thanks to the military he was able to graduate high school while in Hawaii. He was proud of his service in the Navy during World War II. He went on to work for Hazel Atlas Glass for 25 years and was the proprietor of Riffle’s Camper Sales for 30 years.
Russell never met a stranger and loved helping his neighbors and serving the church, which he did all of his life. He began teaching Sunday School at the age of 27 and done so until his passing. Along with his wife Dottie they attended Oak Mound Evangelical Church. Russell also enjoyed working with wood, farming, and the WVU Mountaineers. He loved hunting or just being out in the woods.
Family and friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home 329 E. Main Street Clarksburg, WV, on Sunday, June 23, 2019 from 2 until 6pm. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, June 24, 2019 at 10am with Pastor Steve DeLay presiding. Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded.
