Martha L. Richards, 87, of Clarksburg, WV (Stealey Community) passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Marion County on February 28, 1932, daughter of the late Charles E. “Jim” Compton and Mabel L. (Moran) Reeves.

In addition to her parents Martha was preceded in death by her husband John S. Richards in 1975; one daughter, Sharon L. Embry in 2015; brother, Charles E. Compton II; sister, Alfreda M. Dearth; half-brother, Jeffrey Compton; and two sons-in-law, Paul Embry and Bruce Cross.
Martha is survived by five children: Martha A. Brunetti (Frank) of Center Point, Thomas E. Richards of Clarksburg, John E. Richards of Clarksburg, Sheila L. Richards of Clarksburg, and Johnna A. Hoban of Clarksburg; brother, Wiliam M. “Bill” Compton of Philippi; half brother, James “Jimmy” Compton of Bridgeport; half sister, Jennifer Corton (Jamie) of Bridgeport; 13 grandchildren: Patrick, Jessica, LaRessa, Teresa, Joshua, Cherra Dawn, Elicia, Methius, Michael, Austin, Katherine “Kati,” Bethany, and Corwin; and 16 great-grandchildren: Gabriella, Emmalea, Aaron, Parker, Trinity, Tavares, Logan, Madysen, Hannah, Halynn, Michael Jr., Layla, Norah, Connor, Matthew, and Liam.
Martha loved God, going to church and her church family. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was an amazing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to them all. She looked forward to the day she would be reunited with her loving husband “Johnny.”
Family and friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home 329 E. Main Street Clarksburg, WV, on Friday, May 31, 2019 from 2 until 8pm. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 11am with Rev. Etheldean Yanero and Rev. Brian Boley presiding. Interment will follow at Bridgeport Cemetery where Martha will be laid to rest next to her husband. Our thanks to the Harrison County Humane Society for finding a perfect dog “Remy” for mom to provide companionship and comfort during the last few months.
