Serephie was married to the late James Leonard Newson (divorced), formerly of Alexandria, Virginia, the union of which produced one son, John Langlet Newson, of Columbus, Ohio.
Serephie was a 1939 graduate of Victory High School, of which she had very fond memoirs of classmates and teachers and always enjoyed attending reunions in later years. She was also a 1942 graduate of West Virginia Business College, where she completed the Senior Secretarial Course of Study. Following graduation, she worked as a secretary for businesses in Clarksburg and then later chose to live in Washington, DC, where she worked primarily as a secretary for the US Department of Defense. Later, Serephie, her son, mother, and father, lived for a few years in Melbourne, Florida, where she worked as a secretary at Patrick’s Air Force Base.
After her father’s passing, with her son and mother, Serephie later re-settled in Clarksburg for the next 38 years of her life. She enjoyed raising her son, looking after her elderly mother, partaking in the company of old and dear friends, and working part-time as a secretary for chaplain services at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, from where she retired. Although she was still active and blessed with good health, as she approached her mid-80s, Serephie moved from Clarksburg to Columbus, Ohio, to be closer to her son. She had the opportunity to make new friends in the Parkshire Commons condominium community where she lived for 11 years. Following, she lived at Chimes Terrace Assisted Living, in Johnstown (Columbus metro area), Ohio, for nearly 2 years, before residing the last 6 months of her life at Highbanks Care Center, a nursing home in Columbus. Serephie will be sadly missed by her son and the friends she made over the years.
