Obituary for Ada H. Long

Ada Helen Long, 97, was born on September 28, 1921, and passed peacefully on Saturday November 10th, 2018 at Serenity Hope Care Center in Good Hope, WV after residing there since September of 2016. She was the daughter of Frank Yoho and Dessie VanDyne Yoho, born in Wileyville, WV, one of ten siblings.

Ada was preceded in death by her husband Norman A. (Chet) Long, and the following sisters and brothers – Opal (Harley) Huggins, Garnet (Orloff) Pyles, Lucille Parks, Mary (Ray) Utt, Florence Whan, William Oliver (Brenda) Yoho, Jerry (Carol) Yoho, Okey (Wilma) Yoho.

She is survived by one brother, Richard Yoho. She is also survived by her daughter, Linda Long Moll, and son Lanny (Ann) Long, Grandchildren, Brian Moll, Braden (Diana) Moll, Marcie (Steve) Bittner, and Morgan Long, and great grand-children, Nicole and Lindsey Moll, and Cade and Skylar Bittner. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Ada spent most of her married life living and raising her family in Hartland in Clarksburg, WV.
Ada was a member of the Stealey United Methodist Church for many years, making adult and baby quilts in the Ladies Sewing Circle. She assisted in preparing Mercy dinners, and Thanksgiving dinners for many years at her church. She also cooked breakfast and lunches at the Stealey United Methodist Church for the Early Childhood Development Center for fifteen years retiring in her early 80’s. She was a member of the Quiet Dell Garden Club, Stonewall Jackson Civics Club having earned the honor of being named “Woman of the Year” in 2004, Senior Citizens Club, and Clarksburg American Legion Post #13. She volunteered at the VA Hospital for many years playing bingo with the patients, as well as making cookies for them until age 90.

In her lifetime she worked many years in food service industry, beginning in the 1950’s at Jewel City Bowling Alley as a cook and waitress, and later working at the VA Hospital in the Canteen Food Service for 17 years. Ada loved cooking, baking, waiting on, and taking care of her family. Her joy in life was serving others. She was an excellent cake and pie baker. She loved to read cook books, can food, make homemade pickles, ketchup, mustard, sauerkraut, and relish. She was famous for her homemade egg noodles in chicken broth, pepperoni rolls, mincemeat, and rhubarb pies.

She would never accept defeat in life, surviving the death of her husband 35 years ago, two broken hips, colon cancer at 94, and dementia. She was an inspiration to her physicians, family, and friends.
Family and friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home 329 E. Main Street Clarksburg, WV, on Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 10am until the funeral hour at 12 Noon. Interment will take place at the Northview Cemetery in New Martinsville, WV where her husband and family members are interred. The family would like to thank all the employees of Serenity Hope for the wonderful loving care they gave to Ada. She lit up their lives, as well as the other resident’s lives with her humor, in one way or another.
