Obituary for Brenda Maunz Casto

Brenda Maunz Casto
Brenda Maunz Casto died peacefully at home on March 1, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 63. Brenda was born on Thanksgiving Day, 1954, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. She was a daughter of the late Emmanuel and Margaret Maunz.

In 1980, Brenda married the love of her life, David Casto. Together, they raised two wonderful children: Their daughter Kelli, resides in St. Petersburg, FL. Their son DJ lives in New York, NY with his wife, Leah. She was extremely excited about the birth of DJ and Leah’s first child, and her first grandchild, this July. Brenda was one of five children, and is survived by her siblings who she adored: Ed and Marie Maunz (Cincinnati, OH), Michael and Nancy Maunz (Clarksburg, WV), Mary Angotti (Clarksburg, WV), and Brad, her twin brother and Judy Maunz (Clarksville, MD). She was also blessed with several nieces and nephews.

Brenda was devoted to her family, and they to her. Her entire family lovingly supported her during her illness. Brenda was a generous and fun-loving soul, who never met a stranger. She enjoyed a close group of lifelong friends, and was liked by everyone who knew her. She was happiest surrounded by family and friends, especially during the Christmas holiday season.

Brenda graduated from Notre Dame High School and earned an Associate’s Degree from Fairmont State University. She spent her career serving others, first through customer service and for the last 10 years at the Department of Health & Human Resources, where she was an economic service worker, helping people understand and obtain their benefits. Her colleagues at DHHR respected and admired her passion for helping people in need. Brenda was a lifetime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a supporter of St. Jude Catholic Shrine in Baltimore, MD.

Family and friends may call at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main Street, Clarksburg, on Wednesday, March 7th from 3:00 to 8:00 PM. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 PM to conclude the visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 126 East Pike Street, Clarksburg, on Thursday, March 8th at 10:00 AM with Father Casey B. Mahone as Celebrant.

Expression of sympathy may be extended to the family at www.davisweaverfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Saving Our Seniors (www.savingourseniors.care ), a nonprofit dedicated to helping senior citizens in need, which was founded by Brenda’s daughter.
