Obituary for Loring L. "Tim" Tonkin

Loring L. “Tim” Tonkin passed away on February 12, 2018 after a brief illness. Tim was born on August 9, 1946 and was the eldest son of the late John B. and Nancy S. Tonkin. Tim’s brother John B. Tonkin Jr. and sister Nancy S. Tonkin also preceded him in death.

Tim was a graduate of Randolph Macon Academy and served with and was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Tim also graduated from Fairmont State University with a degree in Business.

Tim retired as Senior Landman at Cabot Oil and Gas Corporation. He worked for Cabot’s Land Department for 30 years, where he managed and worked in the States of WV, PA, NY, OH, VA, and KY, overseeing the development of thousands of oil and or gas wells and numerous prospects. Tim was a great Leader and Mentor to those who worked with him.

Tim was a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL) and a member of the Michael Late Benedum Chapter of the AAPL, where he served many years on the Executive Board.

Tim is survived by his wife Veronica Ann Malfregeot Tonkin, his daughter Holly Ann Tonkin and Amanda Deitz and children Emma and Chad Deitz of Saint Albans, son Timothy Luke Tonkin and daughter Abigail Tonkin of Factoryville, PA, and nephew John “Jeb” Tonkin and wife Abby of Weston and step-mother Betty Preston Tonkin of Bridgeport.

Also surviving are Mother-in-Law Rose Malfregeot, brothers and sisters-in-law Marcel and Betsy Malfregeot, Jim and Brenda Malfregeot, John and Kelly Mazza, nephews Marcel, Michael, James, and Julian Malfregeot and John Ross Mazza, nieces Susan Malfregeot, Alexandria and Gabriella Mazza and great-nephews Alex, Andrew, Silas, and Clark Malfregeot and a great-niece Ava Malfregeot.

Tim loved the outdoors especially when the trout were hitting his flies in the mountains of Randolph County. Deer hunting was his second passion followed by gardening and golf. His heart however was with his family and grandchildren upon whom he left an incredible mark. He loved them dearly!
