Charles A.”Chuck” Spelsberg, Jr., age 78 of Bridgeport, WV departed this life
on Friday, Sept. 21, 2007 in Sunbridge Nursing Home, Salem, WV following an
extended illness. He was born in Clarksburg, WV on Sept. 8, 1929, a son of the late
Charles A. Spelsberg, Sr. and Kathleen (Leonard) Spelsberg.
Surviving are his wife, Mary K. Smith Spelsberg, whom he married on July 25,
1959, one sister, Jeanne S. Holt, Sarasota, FL, several nieces and nephews and
great nieces & nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Dr. Walter Karl Spelsberg and
one sister, Geraldine Bynum Gaston.
Mr. Spelsberg was a member of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Clarksburg
where he served as Councilman, Treasurer and a member of the Endowment
Committee. Mr. Spelsberg was past president of the Clarksburg Rotary Club,
the WV Bakers Association , the Harrison County United Fund and was a past
member of the Executive Board of the United Fund, the Harrison County
Cancer Association, the Sheltered Workshop, the Bridgeport Country Club and past
director of the C. B. & T. Bank of Harrison County.
Mr. Spelsberg served as a Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Air Force during the
Korean Conflict. He previously worked for the Sanitary Baking Company as a business
manager, Harry Green Chevrolet and Elkins Ford Land.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main Street,
Clarksburg from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will be held at
1:00 P.M., Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007 at the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church with
Pastor James L. Caton II presiding. Entombment will be in the Elkview Masonic
Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the All Saints Fund at
St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Rt. # 1, Box 210, Clarksburg, WV 26301.
