Mr. Charles Blaine Fisher, 87, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, July 2, 2010, at his home in Murrells Inlet, SC surrounded by his wife, El-Letha and his family. He was the son of the late Hartzel Fisher and Rose Dadisman Fisher of Barbour County, WV.

In addition to El-Letha, his beloved wife of 64 years, Charles is survived by his son Ervin and wife Patty of Pawleys Island, SC; daughter Shelia Fankhauser and husband Doug of Murrells Inlet, SC; step brother Floyd Rhodes; three grandchildren, three step grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and four step great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; step mother Mabel Fisher; brothers Ercell, Elmer, William, and Gerald; sister Devere Tassone; step brother Bradford Rhodes; and step sister Lorraine Pulliam.

Charles was a loving husband, father and grandfather, he was a retired glass worker and coal miner in Stonewood, WV where he lived until moving to SC in 2006. He was accomplished as a carpenter, auto mechanic, handyman, and repairman.

Charles was a US Army Veteran who served with the 80th Infantry Division in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. He received the Purple Heart Medal and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service.

Charles was an active member of the Stonewall United Methodist church in Stonewood, WV. He was a 32 Degree Scottish Rite mason with membership in Clarksburg Lodge #155 A.F. & A.M. Active in community affairs, he was a founding member and past president of the Stonewood Lions Club, and served multiple terms as councilman and mayor of the town of Stonewood, WV.

Charles was an avid small game and deer hunter. He enjoyed gardening. He also liked to compete in friendly games of horseshoes, badminton, croquet, checkers, or Five Hundred (the family card game).

The family will receive friends at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Tuesday July 6, 2010 where a funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. with the Reverend Sylvester (S.L.) Green presiding. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
